Lakeland, Florida

Site A former three story retail space in downtown Lakeland, Florida, surrounded by office buildings smaller retail shops, restaurants and a church.
Program To renovate retail space into office space with individual offices, as well as open areas to accommodate systems furnishings.  The company operates a nationwide distribution net through their trucking system and the facility in Lakeland is designated the location of their catastrophic response team.  This designation requires the building to have redundant vital systems with alternative power sources to insure operation during or after any major disaster.
Solution Exterior renovations included adding windows for light that are also defensible with impact shutters that can be installed in the event of an emergency.  A curved wall added to the front of the building houses emergency generators and a/c/ equipment and is designed to have grates attached to steel reinforcing beams, securing the area from the impact of flying
debris.  Interior renovations include the design of a state-of-the-art conference area that can be subdivided into several smaller conferencing areas, as well as providing tele-conferencing capabilities.  Systems furnishings were selected to maximize departmental efficiencies and lighting selections provide glare-free task and general lighting
