Grand Opening of Polk County Tourism & Sports Marketing Headquarters

On June 22, the Florida Sports Hall of Fame celebrated their grand opening. The Hall of Fame is co-located within the new Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing Headquarters at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida. Dignitaries and sports personnel from all over Polk County were present for the opening of this facility. Designed by Lunz Prebor Fowler Architects and LPF Interiors, the headquarters is the first phase of a multi-phased vision of the facility. Phase 1 consists of a 16,000 square foot, 2 story office building and museum for Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing and the Florida Sports Hall of Fame. Lunz Prebor Fowler Architects was able to complete the $3 million building ahead of schedule and under budget with over $120,000 in returns to the Polk County Board of County Commissioners without compromising any design elements.

The Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing Headquarters building surpasses expectations of sports fans by providing numerous views of on-site activities and custom integrated technology to follow national events while also allowing for a contemporary and collaborative work environment. The interactive building houses private offices, multipurpose rooms and shaded outdoor viewing patios easily facilitating to seminars, outings and promotional activities. The interiors of the building reflects the active nature of sports marketing though a multi-screen video wall and spaces for events and for viewing games at nearby baseball and soccer fields. An outdoor events area on the primary floor allows the headquarters to be expandable up to 100,000 square feet.

The headquarters provides offices as well as indoor and outdoor social spaces for national, state and regional tournaments. Events scheduled at the complex in the upcoming year include the RussMatt Spring College Baseball Tournament, USSSA and AAU events, Home School Baseball World Series, Florida United Lacrosse Championships, Flag Football and Independent Softball Association and World Amateur Baseball Association tournaments. Polk County Sports Marketing Executive Director Mark Jackson predicts that the new park and facilities alone could account for as much as $50 million in economic impact in Polk County.
